Character art, Steam emoticon mosaics and BBCode
Turn a picture into character art
Convert your image to Unicode dots like ⣿⣷⠿, then copy the text into a Steam comment.
Character art preview
Choose a picture or try the example to see its character art.
Copy preserves blank cells and line breaks. Copy or download TXT before leaving this page.
Steam's font can show faint dots in blank Braille cells, so character art may look different after pasting.
Steam profile comments display [code] tags literally. Paste plain text. Steam can reject Unicode art even below its stated 1,000-character limit; reduce the width and leave room for extra text and emoticon codes.
Turn an image into a grid of real Steam emoticons, then add it to your info box.

Draw or edit the canvas
Click or drag to draw. Hold Shift for straight lines or square shapes. On the canvas: arrows move, Space paints, Shift + Space erases; P/L/R/C/F/X/M/E select tools; Ctrl/⌘ + Z undoes.
A blank canvas replaces the drawing and clears the reference image; Undo restores the drawing.
3. Use your mosaic
Fill the canvas to see an exact character count.
Paste into a Steam field that supports emoticons. If :name: stays as text, use character art instead.
Import existing mosaic text
Paste equal-width rows of contiguous :name: codes. Import replaces the current canvas; Undo restores it.

Compress MP4 gameplay recordings
Compress an MP4 video
- Select an MP4. The tool shows its filename and source file size.
- Choose a preset, maximum width, and audio setting.
- Encode, play the output, and compare its file size before downloading.
MP4 output and quality controls
- Video encoding
- H.264 video in an MP4 container.
- Width options
- Keep source width, or limit it to 720, 1080, 1280, or 1920 px. Smaller sources are not enlarged.
- Quality control
- CRF ranges from 18 to 36. Lower values preserve more detail; higher values favor smaller files.
- Audio
- Keep the source audio by encoding it as AAC at 128 kbps, or remove the audio track.
- Local processing
- Your video is encoded in this browser. The engine downloads before first use; long videos take more time and memory.
MP4 presets
| Your goal | Starting settings | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Preserve more detail | CRF 23 · source width · keep audio | Fine texture, text, and sound |
| Balance size and clarity | CRF 28 · 1280 px · keep audio | Motion and readability at viewing size |
| Try a smaller file | CRF 32 · 720 px · remove audio if unneeded | Visible blur and measured output size |
Resize a 1080p gameplay recording to 720p
- Source dimensions: 1920 × 1080 px
- Maximum width: 1280 px → output: 1280 × 720 px
- Video quality: CRF 28 · Keep audio: on
Steam video compression questions
Does MP4 compression lose quality?
H.264 re-encoding can lose detail, and resizing removes pixels. Lower CRF values preserve more detail but can produce larger files.
Why is the output larger?
The source may already use more efficient encoding or a lower bitrate. Try a higher CRF or lower width if the resulting quality is acceptable.
How can I reduce MP4 file size?
Try the smaller-file preset: CRF 32 and a 720 px width limit. Compare the output size and visible detail.
What does CRF mean?
CRF sets H.264 encoding quality. Here, 18 favors detail and 36 favors stronger compression; it is not a quality percentage.
Can I target a specific MB size?
No. The tool has width and CRF controls, not a target-size encoder.
Can I remove audio?
Yes. Turn off Keep audio. When kept, audio is encoded as AAC at 128 kbps.
Can I trim the video?
No. It encodes the whole video. The GIF converter can select a short segment for GIF output.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Encoding runs locally after the engine downloads.
Can I use the MP4 as Steam profile artwork?
This tool exports MP4 video; it does not create or upload Steam artwork. Use the GIF converter if you need GIF output.
