Character art, Steam emoticon mosaics and BBCode
Turn a picture into character art
Convert your image to Unicode dots like ⣿⣷⠿, then copy the text into a Steam comment.
Character art preview
Choose a picture or try the example to see its character art.
Copy preserves blank cells and line breaks. Copy or download TXT before leaving this page.
Steam's font can show faint dots in blank Braille cells, so character art may look different after pasting.
Steam profile comments display [code] tags literally. Paste plain text. Steam can reject Unicode art even below its stated 1,000-character limit; reduce the width and leave room for extra text and emoticon codes.
Turn an image into a grid of real Steam emoticons, then add it to your info box.

Draw or edit the canvas
Click or drag to draw. Hold Shift for straight lines or square shapes. On the canvas: arrows move, Space paints, Shift + Space erases; P/L/R/C/F/X/M/E select tools; Ctrl/⌘ + Z undoes.
A blank canvas replaces the drawing and clears the reference image; Undo restores the drawing.
3. Use your mosaic
Fill the canvas to see an exact character count.
Paste into a Steam field that supports emoticons. If :name: stays as text, use character art instead.
Import existing mosaic text
Paste equal-width rows of contiguous :name: codes. Import replaces the current canvas; Undo restores it.

Compress Steam artwork, avatars, and screenshots
Batch compress and resize images
- Select one or more PNG, JPEG, or WebP still images.
- Use PNG output for Steam artwork, set the longest-edge limit, or choose JPEG for opaque images.
- Inspect each result’s dimensions and measured file size, then download the versions you want.
Image format, resizing, and transparency
- Batch settings
- The selected format, size limit, and quality apply to the batch.
- Size limits
- Keep source dimensions or limit the longest edge to 960, 1280, 1600, 2048, or 2560 px. No upscaling.
- Quality range
- 35–95% for JPEG and WebP encoding. The slider is not a PNG compression control.
- Transparent images
- PNG and WebP can retain transparency. JPEG replaces transparent pixels with white.
- Still images only
- This workflow does not preserve animation. Processing runs locally in your browser.

Steam image compression questions
Can I compress multiple images together?
Yes. The output format, longest-edge limit, and quality apply to every selected image.
Which format should I use?
JPEG suits opaque photos. PNG and WebP support transparency; compare output sizes and detail.
Why does the quality slider not reduce PNG size?
The slider controls lossy JPEG and WebP encoding. For PNG, reduce dimensions or choose another output format.
What happens when transparent PNG becomes JPEG?
Transparent areas become white. Choose PNG or WebP to keep transparency.
Can this enlarge images or preserve animation?
No. It only reduces dimensions and exports still images.
Are images uploaded, and are exports always smaller?
Processing is local. Output size depends on the source, format, dimensions, and quality; it can be larger.
Which format should I export for Steam?
Steam’s artwork form lists JPG, PNG, and GIF with a 5 MB limit. This tool defaults to static PNG; use the GIF maker for animation. WebP is for web sharing.
