Background Cropper

Instructions

Use this page as the workflow checklist for creating Steam profile background slices that match the selected showcase type and display mode.

Start With The Same Steam Background

  1. Open the Steam profile background you want to use and copy the same full-size image or video source into the cropper.
  2. Choose Full Screen when the profile background should cover the browser width.
  3. Choose Original Size when the profile background should keep the Steam item size.
  4. Do not switch display mode after exporting. If the Steam profile uses a different mode, export again from that mode.

Choose The Showcase Before Export

  1. Use Featured Artwork when the profile needs one wide panel.
  2. Use Artwork Showcase when the profile needs one main artwork panel plus the narrow side panel.
  3. Use Workshop Showcase when the profile needs multiple vertical slices.
  4. Use Screenshot or Video Showcase only when that is the final showcase selected on the Steam profile.

Set The Crop Height Once

  1. Set the showcase height before downloading slices.
  2. Keep every slice from the same export run.
  3. Avoid resizing one slice by hand after export, because the background can stop lining up with the rest of the showcase.
  4. If the preview height changes later, download the complete slice set again.

Export Animated Backgrounds As Animated Slices

  1. Wait until the animated Steam background is playing in the preview.
  2. Check that the page background and showcase preview show the same animation frame.
  3. Download animated slices from the same preview session so each exported file starts from the same timeline.
  4. After upload, watch the edge where the showcase meets the profile background. If the motion drifts, re-export the full set.

Upload And Check On Steam

  1. Upload each exported file to the Steam surface that matches the selected showcase type.
  2. Keep the slice order unchanged when placing multiple panels.
  3. Apply the same Steam profile background used in the cropper.
  4. Refresh the profile and check the seam between the profile background and the showcase area.
